22 June 1872 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 22nd [June 1872]. I went & breakfasted with Dss de la Torre– They leave for La Granja next week– The Hambros have resolved to return tomorrow to England. On my return from Dss I had a lot of things to write for Henry & had a busy afternoon; at 5 we went downstairs to the harmonium & practised for tomorrow’s church– Dined at 6½ & then we drove out intending to go to the concert in the Retiro gardens but a storm threatened & there was so much lightning & such large drops of rain that we went instead to Price’s circus & saw Cinderella acted by 50 children. Henry & I then came home & left the Hambros & Riaños (who had joined us) to stay till the end to see the Indians. | |
