5 July 1872 — Bordeaux | |
Friday. 5th July [1872]. I was better on awaking & able to go on to Paris—leaving at 10.10. We breakfasted at Angouleme & dined at Orleans & got to Paris at 10. At Juvisy I was terrified by our train suddenly stopping at a danger signal & our engine gave out shrieks of impatience, a train as it turned out had been in our way—this was the place where that frightful railway accident happened abt a fortnight ago in wh the Dss of Malakoff’s mother had been killed. On arriving we had tea & went to bed. | |
