23 July 1872 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Tuesday. 23rd [July 1872]. I sat all the morning with Cornelia (& she had the children with her) under the trees in the garden opposite the magnolia wall & partly under the umbrella tents on the bowling green. Ivor & I invented a travelling kettle wh we are going to get made in Poole. He also gave me a case of his containner traveling knife spoon & fork. I went in & wrote letters & came out again to tea on the green. The M & Blanche came down from town & after tea B & Henry & I went for a walk & called at Luff’s did not find him in so went on to the Pynes & found Mrs Pyne in bed with ague. We walked home round by Mrs Whitelock’s lodge– Mr & Mrs Dawes & Mr Kennaway (the curate) dined. We had some glee singing in the eveng.
