25 July 1872 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset | |
Thursday. 25th July [1872]. There was a cricket match between Poole & Canford in wh Poole was victorious. After sitting watching cricket sometime, Henry & I went for a walk; we called again on Luff but only found his wife– We also got the key & went into the church to see how the mosaic looked—& then I went & sat with Caroline Warren who is dying slowly. Mr Kennaway dined. It was very thundery & oppressive & I went off to bed directly after dinner. It appears that it lighted for 3 or 4 hours without a moment’s ceasing but I did not see it. I woke with the thunder in the night. | |
