31 July 1872 — Aldermaston Court, Aldermaston, Berkshire | |
Wednesday. 31st [July 1872]. A large party went to Silchester to see the ruins with Mr Fergusson as a cicerone. We went down to fish i.e. Henry, Grannie, Mr & Mrs Burr & myself & we had a very pleasant afternoon but caught very little & mostly gudgeon to our disgust. Sir James Lacaita & Mr Grant Duff came– Sir Paul Hunter dined & we had a most merry dinner & fits of laughter—& Susan & I were quite in the giggles– | |
