8 September 1872 — Venice
Sunday. 8th [September 1872]. We went to Guggenheim’s to see all his curiosities & antiquities & came home to lunch. In the afternoon Hy & I went to call on Mme Pisani & found her at home– We also called on Brown & found him in but Henry alone went up & B came down to talk to me in the gondola to give me coffee. We then went & picked up M & Rd & went off to the Lido wh is very much changed since last we were there. They have been large baths built on the shore, roads & avenues made & there were crowds of people out from Venice who go there in the steamers wh run between Venice & the Lido every 5 minutes. We walked abt a little & then returned to Venice. Dined on the Terrace & Cortelazzo with us. To the Piazza after dinner.
