16 September 1872 — Turin
Monday. 16th [September 1872]. Mr Colnaghi came early to see us—also we had a visit from Sir Fred: Elliot & his wife whom Henry knew. We all went out together to the Picture gallery & then to the Armoury & I came back very tired to lunch. At 3 we took an open cab & drove to call on the Marquise d’Avillars, Mme Dragonetti’s mother. She is a very old lady very feeble but very clever & talkative. She gave us parcels for Mme D. at Madrid. We then called on the Colnaghi’s who live in the same house & afterwards drove round the town. There are very pretty gardens & drives & the town is very pretty & bright. We dined at 7 & met the Elliots in the dining room. They came up to our sitting room & sat with us in the evening.
