29 October 1872 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 29th [October 1872]. We rode in the afternoon by the Calle Ancha to the Fuente. Henry & I were discussing in a loud voice the King &c when a horseman rode quickly by us—bowing as he went—I was going to say what ‘Pollo’ is that when his servant passed wearing the red livery—it was a case of ‘talking of angels.’ We took a few turns in the Fuente & then home. The Bernars came to see us—later came Ffrench to ask for dinner. | |
