11 November 1872 — Madrid
Monday. 11th [November 1872]. It was a windy cold chill day. We went out riding notwithstanding by the Alcala where our horses were distracted by the quantities of omnibuses tearing by in all directions some having a man blowing a horn. They were going to the Campos Elisias where there was a kind of Bullfight “Torelos” going on– We rode along that road & then went across country round to the Fuente– The bare bleak desert country was uninviting & we were not sorry to get back into the town & home being very cold–
