28 November 1872 — Madrid
Thursday. 28th [November 1872]. Another railway bridge broken by republicans & good deal of fighting in South—Murcia & Segovia– After lunch Henry, Mr W. & I walked to the Museum—saw Grau there who is copying La Fecundidad for me in water colors. We went to Laurent’s for Mr W to get some photos & walked home– Mme Ettling came to see me also Ffrench. Mr Wylde left us for Cordova being anxious to get his inspection of consuls over. He will have to make a détour by Belonez & go some way by diligence & will not get there till 9 tomorrow night. We dined with the Bauers where we met the Bernars, Sr Ojeda, Signor Collobiano & Esquivel. We came home abt 11½–
