2 January 1873 — Madrid | |
Thursday. 2nd January [1873]. Bauer sent me a lovely bonbon box consisting of a counterfeit of 12 china plates—cardboard covered with satin & the top one embroidered. After lunch I went out to see Mme Ettling & sat with her sometime & then to Mme Koudriaffsky & did ditto. Then went to the Dss de la Torre & found her just going out & she proposed to send away my carriage & go with her wh I did– But unfortunately we began to talk of the King & politics & she got furious & by the time we got to my door she wd hardly speak to me. In the eveng I sent her a note hoping she was not angry—but she sent no answer. I read Marco Polo out to Henry. | |
