3 January 1873 — Madrid | |
Friday. 3rd January [1873]. Got a very cool note from Dss refusing to dine with us on 8th & sent her a civil answer—but got none in return. I sent to Mme Bauer asking to go out with her—& she took me to the Retiro & we walked there but it was very muddy & unpleasant—afterwards we went to call on Mme Barral whose reception day it is & then she brought me home. I read Marco Polo before & after dinner to Henry. | |
