4 January 1873 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 4th [January 1873]. Painted all the morning & went by appointment to see the Queen at 1 o’cl: She seemed very bright & cheery—dressed in a black silk skirt over wh was a maroon velvet. She enquired much after Henry, talked a great deal & said she had heard that our house was so lovely &c &c. Coming out from her I met the Bauers who were going to see her also. Before coming home to lunch I went to see Mme Dragonetti who is not very well again & then I went home. Bouillé called & we had a long story from him, how he had refused to dine at Court on Thursday unless they gave him the 1st place &c. Del Cerro also came looking mysterious & determined to set out Bouille. When the latter was gone Del Cerro began his errand which was that the Dss de la Torre had sent him to make it up with me & to say she & Serrano would come & dine on 8th. We said we were delighted & he went away satisfied. I read Marco Polo to Henry– | |
