7 February 1873 — Madrid
Friday. 7th [February 1873]. I went to breakfast with the Dss de la Torre. She tells me she is going with the children to join Serrano. On my way home I went to Mme Prim to ask her to take some tickets for a concert & we had a long talk—she seems very pleased with the King &c I then went & saw the Dragonettis & got them to take some tickets for the King which they did & paid me for 20. I begged them to dine with us on Tuesday they accepted. Mr Rutledge turned up from Cordova & gave a fearful acct of the state of the country & the attempt to assassinate him himself. I read Marco Polo to Henry in the evening. De Blas called for the 1st time since Sagastas Ministry went out.
