5 March 1873 — Madrid | |
Wednesday. 5th [March 1873]. Copied & wrote letters– Great excitement & alarm today & a row expected so much so that Henry said I had better not go out. The Ayltons came after luncheon & Louise stayed until Mme de Canitz came to take us out. I told her what Henry had said so we said we would wait a little & we played harmonium & piano together & sang &c. till 5. Finding that Henry did not come home & that all was quiet we went out on foot from here by the Campo de Moro round by the Puerta de Segovia & home. When Henry came in from the Cortès he said that the Govt had been beaten but had not resigned & that all was quiet & the crowd dispersed & the danger over for today. | |
