26 March 1873 — Madrid
Wednesday. 26th [March 1873]. I practised & painted in the morning. It was a lovely day & Mme Vernouillet came to see me– I went out in the open carriage, called on the Dss of Tetuan whom I found at home & then went to Mme la Romana’s—she was out & then to Mme Ettling who was also out. To Mme Casa Torres who was just going out so my visit to her was short & I went to call on Mme Rascon who lives out of the Atocha gate—& found her in & some Spanish old ladies who droned away abt the state of Spain, Mme Rascon pretending that she was even afraid of going into the town I soon left them & went to leave cards in the Barrio Salamanca & then having being from end to end of the town went home.
