18 April 1873 — Madrid | |
Friday. 18th [April 1873]. Mr Napier was not well today & changed his dr for Fontaine. Practised & drew in the afternoon we drove & went to call on Mme Prim to recommend her an english Governess a Miss Bentley who is in distress. Then we walked in the Retiro the same way that Emilia once took me to the left of the Alcala entrance & we found out a Belvedere where one got a good view of the neighbourhood & could distinctly see the Escorial in the distant mountains. Maffei dined with us & after dinner Mme de Canitz came & spent the evening—we sang that is I did nearly all the eveng & Maffei pretended to do so & we sat late over our music & then had some tea before parting. | |
