20 April 1873 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 20th April [1873]. A fine day—but not very hot. We took Clarita to the concert. At lunch Messrs Haggart & Napier appeared, the former with his arm in a sling having had it kicked yesterday in helping a lady in the Fuente whose horses came down so he excused himself from dining. I came back from the concert with a headache & had to go & rest till dinner. Serrano, Rancès, Albareda, Cherbuliez, Nicholas, Gayangos & Emilia &c dined with us (we were 11). The papers announce the death of the President Figueras’ wife & rumours that he will therefore resign. The Times today had an account of an accident to Merthyr out hunting who is said to have broken a rib by his horse falling on him. We wanted to arrange our fishing party at Vista Allegre with Albareda & almost settled for Wednesday next. | |
