6 May 1873 — Madrid
Tuesday. 6th [May 1873]. I arranged for giving Mr Napier a room downstairs near the chancery & wrote &c. After lunch I went out to see Mme Ettling whose husband is ill & has a melancholy fit. I then went to pick up Henry in the Recolletos & it being a windy blustering day we did not stay out long. Mrs Yelverton (Lady Avenmore) came to see us but Henry alone saw her & Emilia Riaño & I peeped thro’ the chinks to see her. She was horribly fast in appearance in a pink bonnet & light green gown! We went to Bouillés in the eveng where we were overwhelmed with enquiries & congratulations abt our journey.
