9 May 1873 — Madrid | |
Friday. 9th [May 1873]. I copied a despatch for Henry to send by the French courier today & began a translation. Heard last night that Topete had surrendered himself to the authorities & is in prison– Against all his friends advice he gave himself up. Bernadine Aylton came to see me & helped me to dress for riding Hill being at the funeral. Henry & I went riding & met Vernouillet, St Genois & Haggart who accompanied us. After dinner Mr Napier, the Canitz, Señor Figueras, St Jabot & Conde Fuenrubia came also Ct Maffei. There was whist & music & working– We separated late. | |
