13 May 1873 — Madrid
Tuesday. 13th [May 1873]. Very hot day, wrote &c. After lunch I read Ticknor aloud to Henry & in the middle in came Rancès to say goodbye as he starts this evening for Cadiz. At 5 Miss Bentley came to tell me that she has not got that situation I hoped to get her & not knowing what to do with her I told her she might come & stay here for a little time & is to come tomorrow. Abt 6 we went out riding but it was very oppressive & looked stormy. We met Monteverde & rode with him. Went to Bouillés in eveng.
