27 July 1873 — London | |
Sunday. 27th July [1873]. Henry & I went to Haweis chapel. Mrs Amory (M. Unwin as was) came into our pew—& we saw Lady Clarendon coming out. We went to L. Hse & deposited our books & hired a hansom & drove to Turnham Green to lunch with Mr Wylde (of the F.O.) & made acquaintance with his wife & family & took a turn in his garden—but it was too showery to remain out. After luncheon we drove in to Pembroke Lodge to see Lord & Lady Russell & found them in—& Ld Russell wonderfully well. On our way back to London we stopt at Kew & called upon Sir A. Helps making acquaintance with his wife & daughters & met also the Bss of Limerick—had tea & went on to Little Holland House. Found old Uncle Thoby wonderfully well & sat with him a long time. Went into Watt’s studio & saw the lovely portraits he is doing—one of Lady Russell & another of Mrs Lestrange. We expected to have met Lady Somers but she sent us a message by Georgy Gordon to go & see her so we went on to Princes Gate & had a chat with her getting back to L. Hse at 8½. Had dinner– Bed. | |
