30 July 1873 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Wednesday. 30th [July 1873]. I spent the morning in Connie’s room trying oil paints in wh we were not very successful. We made our heads rather ache & produced nothing wonderful– After lunch I took a walk with Henry & we called on Mrs Luff & Mrs Pyne. Mr Pyne is ill with a bad leg & we could not see him. We dined at 7½ in the great Hall at a large Tenants’ dinner. Col Spencer took me in & I sat between him & Clark & Maria was between Clark & Austin. There were a lot of speeches & Henry had to make two. It was eleven before they were all over & we got out of dinner. Ivor spoke very well–
