1 August 1873 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Friday. 1st August [1873]. There was a cricket match but I was tired & did not go out so I wrote up arrears of letters wh occupied me all the morning– After lunch I had just settled myself to make a sketch of the house with Connie in the garden when I was sent for to drive to Kingston Lacy & I went with Rd DC in the Victoria, Cornelia went with Henry &c in the barouche– Coming home we stopt to shop in Wimborne & Rd walked most of the rest of the way home. I went to the Pynes & had tea there & walked home with Ly Louisa Ponsonby. There was a ball (Tenants & county) in the eveng. I had to dress Connies hair for her & after dinner I took Temmie upstairs & arranged her—so when we came down we found dancing had commenced. I danced a country dance with Mr Jenkins of Dowlais. At 2 I went off to bed & got Luff to bring me out a little supper in the great stairs.
