10 August 1873 — Aldermaston Court, Aldermaston, Berkshire
Sunday. 10th [August 1873]. We went to church in the morning & afterwards walked in the grove with the Squire & suddenly I discovered that I had lost a locket from my chateleine. It was subsequently found by the policemen at the church gate. It rained a good deal in the afternoon & I & Mrs Senior were obliged to turn back from our intended walk. I was sitting at the piano taking down names of songs when one large pearl dropped out of my 2 heart ring—luckily into my hands—so I had 2 narrow escapes today– As it rained I went up & sat in Cars room & had a long talk to her–
