8 September 1873 — Eastnor Castle, nr. Ledbury, Herefordshire
Monday. 8th [September 1873]. I sat & worked with Addie. It was a wet morning—at 5 it had cleared & I & Henry went out with Ld Somers & Mr Chebet, we went across the park to the Ridgeway to see the oak on wh the mistletoe grows. It is the only oak in England on wh it grows & it used to be worshipped only by the Druids when found on the oak. Arrivals, Val Prinsep, Harry Bourke, the Henry Somersets, Lady Louisa Mills, Dicky Doyle, Miss Thackeray. We dined very late as it was some time before they were all settled & had their boxes.
