16 September 1873 — Langham House, Portland Place | |
Tuesday. 16th September [1873]. Arthur breakfasted with us & went away abt 11. as he was going to join his yacht at Plymouth. Susan came in to see me. I went out shopping in Arthur’s brougham. Went to Mrs Rate but she was not in so I returned home & waited for Henry—he came at ¼ to 5—& Alice Rate called at the same time. We promised her to go down to Milton for Sunday & then Henry & I went off to see Miss Dickens & Miss Hogarth by appointment. From there we went to Lady Walkers & then home– The Hambros & Monty dined with us—the latter seemed much out of spirits. | |
