20 September 1873 — Langham House, Portland Place
Saturday. 20th [September 1873]. Went in the brougham at 11 to the British Museum to see Mr Newton– Saw the collection of Menevite remains brought home by Mr Smith for the Daily Telegraph & presented by them, nothing very remarkable—& Henry did not think much of them—we went with Mr Newton to see the Castillian bronzes—the large head of is certainly very beautiful. He showed us also photos of the newly discovered treasures from Troy—called “Priams” treasure. We also met Mr Franks & went over the collection of glass with him. We went home, packed, lunched & set off for Milton Court by 2.15 train leaving Hill in town to finish packing for our journey to Spain. Got to Milton abt 4.30– Took a walk in the garden with Alice who is not yet recovered eno’ from her confinement to do much. I sat with her in the evening while she went to bed & saw my godchild & namesake Miss Enid Rate–
