23 September 1873 — Langham House, Portland Place
Tuesday. 23rd [September 1873]. Breakfast at 7 & started by 8.30 train for Folkstone– We found Sir Henry Holland & his son a clergyman starting for a tour to Naples having just returned from the fair of Novogorod. So they joined us in our carriage. We had a splendid passage across—not a ripple & no one on board could be ill– We got safely to Paris & to the Rue des Dauphin by 7– So tired that I went to bed immediately after dinner.
