24 September 1873 — Paris
Wednesday. 24th [September 1873]. We went off to see the Hotel de Cluny wh interested me very much & afterwards we went into Notre Dame wh I had seen before but forgotten– It is dreadfully disappointing to find all the side chapels so recently & vulgarly decorated. We found a crowd of people in the sacristie looking at a treasure—as it turned out to be the garments of the 3 murdered Archbishops of Paris we did not care to see it & went away—then we went to the English Embassy & Henry went in while I waited for him & so back to the Hotel. After lunch Henry & I set out for a walk & I went to Mlle Petat & ordered some artificial flowers & then went home. We dined at ¼ to 7 & went afterwards to the Folies Dramatiques to see “La Fille de Mme Angot” which was very amusing & in wh the girl who acted the first part was excellent– On returning home we heard that Adeline & Lady M. Herbert had arrived from the Tyrol & as M. Belard had no room to take them in they were at the Hotel du Dauphin opposite.
