25 September 1873 — Paris | |
Thursday. 25th [September 1873]. Adeline came over to see us after breakfast & we arranged to go out shopping together so we fetched Lady Mary Herbert & set off—walked right up the Boulevards des Capucines & found a cheap bonnet shop where Adeline invested in a bonnet & then we walked home & got our luncheons– Henry went out & Adeline came over & sat with me & we had a long & serious talk– Henry returned abt 4½ so Adeline went back to Lady Mary– Silvela called– He returns with his family to Madrid tomorrow– All the Spaniards are returning. We hear that even the Dss de la Torre had gone back with her children. At 6 we all went to Champeaux where we dined & then went to the Circus. There were some clever Japanese jugglers—one of whom danced on the tight rope balancing himself with his umbrella & fan– | |
