26 September 1873 — Paris
Friday. 26th September [1873]. Did not go out but sat talking with Adeline till the De Peyronnet girls arrived—they came up from Essoñe to spend the day with me. We took a little walk before lunch in search of a bonnet for me but in vain– During lunch Sr Moret turned up—on his way from Madrid to London so we 3 went out & left him to talk to Henry– We went to a bonnet shop & after being kept waiting some time walked out of it—& went to the Louvre shop to meet Adeline & Lady Mary—& there I bought a present for Clarita, we then walked a long way with the De Peyronnets to accompany them to the train & when we parted with them A & I got in to a fiacre & drove home by 4½– Lord Lytton called & I met him for the first time– He is young, good looking & very like his father but very dreamy in manner. He took Henry out with him. Adeline & Lady Mary dined with us here & afterwards Henry, Adeline & I went to the Palais Royale Theatre—Isabelle de P. had told us that “Le Roi Candaule” was so very improper that we went in trembling—but we found it was not so & that it was most amusing & that & “Les incendies de Mousselard” made us roar. “Le Hussard persecute” was very stupid.
