28 September 1873 — Paris
Sunday. 28th [September 1873]. Went with Adeline to church in the Rue d’Aguesseau. We had very bad places just by the door in the gallery so we went away at the beginning of the sermon which was a charity one. We went to the Hotel Vouillemont to call on the Bauers, there Henry met me & Adeline went back to Lady Mary. The Bauers were very glad to see us & are only regretting they could not go back to Madrid with us—but they cannot get off so soon– We walked back to lunch at No 7 & found Adeline & Lady M at lunch– The latter went off to lunch & I went over to the Hotel du D. with Adeline & sat with her while she packed as she goes back to England tomorrow. as Lady M. did not return we went into S. Roch in search of her & seeing that she was deep in prayer we left her & went & took a turn in the Tuilleries, finding chairs we sat there & had a serious talk till abt 5 when Henry came & fetched us in. Henry & I dined at 5 & Adeline sat with us, at 7½ we bid her adieu & set off to the railway station intending to go by 8.15 train to Blois. We found that it was an express & they wd not give us tickets for it—so we had to wait till ¼ to 9 when we went off & got to Blois at 11½ & went to the hotel & to bed.
