6 November 1873 — Madrid
Thursday. 6th November [1873]. Worked all the morning. Ruiz Gomez called having just returned to Madrid– Miss Bentley also came & Inzenga gave me a lesson on harmonium. I went out & called on the Bauers but she was not in—went to the dentist & home. Mme Bauer called on me, was very glad to see her. Maffei called & the Ayltons. We went to dine with the Serranos at 7– Met there Silvela & Del Cerro whom we had not seen since the departure of the King & who is as silly has ever—has become violent republican & was laughed at by every one– In the evening a few people came in, Mme Campo Alanjè who at once was put to play dominoes & Mme Valera & her niece. I left Henry at Canitz on my way home for his whist party.
