24 November 1873 — Madrid | |
Monday. 24th November [1873]. Louise Aylton came to knit in the morning. At 3 Henry & I went out driving & we took a walk in the Retiro where we met Serrano & his ADC. Anomada & I went to Gardeners & home by 5. In the Retiro we met Mme Bauer walking with Alfred Weil who was looking very ill. Castelar called at 6. & Maffei came just as we were playing backgammon before dinner. After I played harmonium until people began to arrive. The Saavedras, Emilia, La Rochefoucaulds & a good many men came & there were two whist tables. | |
