25 November 1873 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 25th [November 1873]. Helped Henry to cypher a telegram. Abt 11 came news that little Arthur Hamilton was dead so I sent off Hill to fetch Carrie & Ada who returned with her– Copied despatches for Henry. Lesson of Inzenga. After lunch I went out leaving cards until 5. We played backgammon till dressing time– Henry went to dine at la Rochefoucaulds & I at the Bauers where I met Llorente, Nicholas, Esquivel & Palmaroli. At 10¼ I returned home. Henry came later– Castelar & Valera & Miguel de los Santos had dined there—& a great many people were there in the eveng & there was dancing. Messenger left. | |
