26 November 1873 — Madrid
Wednesday. 26th [November 1873]. I did not go out as I sent the carriage to the funeral of the Hamilton child– The Derings lunched with us & we took leave of them as they start this evening from Santander on their way home & from there to their new post Stockholm– A messenger arrived from Lisbon with bags– After lunch Mr Sopwith came to say that he had been to see Mrs Whyte to try & persuade her to go to England– The Bells called & I had to bundle them off to go & help Henry with a telegram. I wrote some letters for England to send by the Derings. Mme & Mlle Figueras called—& later came Clarita. Henry walked out to see Koudriaffsky. The Hamilton boys came after the funeral to say that the 2 girls were to stay here the night. In the eveng Beck, Mirecki & Mr Hunt came & we practised trios & Mirecki & Beck played 2 lovely sonatas—one of Mendelssohn & the other Rubinstein.
