23 January 1874 — Madrid
Friday. 23rd [January 1874]. Painted & worked as there was no post. Henry had nothing to do so he came to sit in my room in the morng. It was a fine warm day & we went out at 3. All the world was out it being the feast of st Ildefonso. There is to be a great Alfonsist banquet at the Duke & Dss de Sesto tonight. We took a turn in the Fuente & came home early. We have had no post since Monday & there is notice given the t will arrive tomorrow. We had music in the eveng. Beck, Mirecki & Espino & I played. Sedorovitch, the Pedrorenas, Ruiz Gomez, Aurelie & Maffei came.
