7 February 1874 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 7th February [1874]. Painted all the morning and at 12 Esq gave me a lesson. Drove & walked with Henry in Fuente. Mme Bauer came to see us, also Miss Bentley to say she had got her place & was to go off to Camillos near Santander on Monday. After dinner went to the Sres de la Puente’s in the Barrio Salamanca where we found them dancing on a thick carpet with a piano tinkling faintly in the adjoining room. They were very civil & presented me all their smart people but we did not stay long as we had to go to the Scoanes ball in the Calle Atocha. There we found a great crowd & a very pretty house. Sat with Mme Saavedra but was home soon after 12. | |
