15 March 1874 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 15th [March 1874]. Up early & went to church with Henry. Mr Ross preached. Lunched at 1¼ & at ¼ 2 went off to the Sunday concert. Were joined by the Vernouillets who went off early to the Bullfight. It was a fine day & we took a turn in the Fuente in the open carriage before coming home. Albareda, Riaños, Gay: Ruiz Gomez, Montesino, Mr Hare, Saurin, O’Connor & Maffei dined with us. Castelar was to have dined but abt 6 he went word that he was ill & could not come, so I invited Mrs Riaño instead. Albareda was called away early in the eveng on acct of a fire in the town. What wd the Ld Mayor say if he was fetched every time there was a fire in London. Emilia & I put silver paper in Barquers album to send to Mr Conseres. | |
