30 March 1874 — Madrid | |
Monday. 30th [March 1874]. Painted away in the morning & Esquivel gave me a lesson. After lunch Henry & I went out to call on the Bauers whom we saw. The news from the North proves to be rather good than bad– Serrano has taken some Carlist positions but with heavy losses– Genl Frisco de Reviro wounded & a Col killed. We went to take leave of the Dss de la Torre & found her in pretty good spirits. We went to tell Brehm that we start tomorrow & then went home. A few people came in the eveng & we had a ladies’ whist. | |
