Tuesday. 7th [April 1874]. This was the first day of the Gib races & about 12 we started from the Convent for the race course which is on the flat under the rock & near the lines—& goes round the cemetery. It was rather windy in the Grand stand where we went with the Govr at 2 we lunched in the Artillery tent & then went back– Mrs de Winton remained in the carriage on account of her broken arm. We went home by 5 & then Henry & I sat in the garden & have tea. I sang in the evening.
