17 April 1874 — Gibraltar
Friday. 17th [April 1874]. At 10 o’cl: we took leave of the Governor & Mrs de Winton & went off to the “Escort” which took us to Malaga where we arrived at ½ past 4 having had a very good & quiet voyage. It was a lovely day & it was very amusing watching the porpoises racing the ship. Capt Montagu met us & took us on shore. He had orders to start at once in the Rapid to Almeria so we arranged that Nety should accompany us to Madrid so he left her in our care & we dined together & went early to bed.
