2 May 1874 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 2nd [May 1874]. I painted all the morning. We intended to go out riding & ordered the horses at 5 but just then there came on a tremendous dust storm & we had to give it up. While we were at dinner there came out an extraordinaria that the Carlists had abandoned Bilbao and a letter from the Dss told us that she had heard that Serrano had entered the town. After dinner we went to congratulate her & then on to the Vernouillets where we stayed a very short time—as it was hot & boring. | |
