23 May 1874 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 23rd [May 1874]. The Messenger (Hall) arrived– I could not paint much as the day was so showery & we had a thunderstorm about 1 when it became quite dark. However it cleared & Esquivel looked in about 3. The Riaños & Mr Gayangos dined with us. (I went to see Mrs Whyte & arranged with her abt her journey in case they have to start tomorrow for Tours. I found Mr Molony there. It rained so we did not stay out.) They stayed till abt 11 & then we parted. Emilia & Mr Gayangos also start for England tomorrow. | |
