31 May 1874 — Madrid | |
Sunday 31st May [1874]. I went to church at 11. Mr Jameson came & asked me to play the harmonium as Mrs J. didn’t feel up to it & I did so. We had sermon from a Mr Somerville who is considered a fine preacher but I did not admire him. I came home with headache & had to go & lie down till after 4 when I had tea & got up. I was playing the harmonium when Ojeda & his girl called. Then came Mme Bauer. At 6 we went out for a drive in the Fuente & it was pleasant & cool. Back to dinner. Esq:, Brehm, Canitz’s, Maffei, Riaño, Saurin, OConner, Hamiltons & Saint Martin dined, most of them went on to the Koudriaffskys. I played the harmonium a bit before going to bed. | |
