12 June 1874 — Madrid
Friday. 12th [June 1874]. There was another storm this morning. I painted & worked. At 6 I went out to fetch Henry who was gone to the F.O. Met Maffei at the door who told me Henry had only just gone in to Ulloa & I was to wait—he stopped talking & got into the carriage. It was very hot– Maffei went home to get something & when Henry came out we went to pick up Maffei & take him to the B. Salamanca where we left him. A thunderstorm was coming up & when we got half way up the Fuente we had to turn & go home. The Canitz arrived dressed for dinner to stay with us till they leave Madrid. We had our whist parties tonight but not many people came.
