20 June 1874 — Madrid
Saturday. 20th [June 1874]. The messenger arrived from England. I had a busy morning arranging & putting away china & got rather tired. Henry rode in the afternoon & I went out with Mrs MacDonell for a drive. While we were in the Fuente there was a horse ran away with a carriage but the driver was luckily able to guide his horse & got thro’ the crowd of carriages but the horse fell into a hole & the carriage was overturned. After dinner we went to see the Bauers. There were only Esquivel & Carretero there– Mme B. had a bad cold & the children are not well as they were rather low.
