21 June 1874 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 21st June [1874]. Grau came to take leave of us & Charlie Hamilton to have a lesson on the harmonium. At 11 we went to church with Hill– When I got there Mr Jameson asked me to play the harmonium as Mrs J. was not very well & was not at church which I did. Maffei called in the afternoon– At 4 we started for Caravanchel to see the Css Montijo. We found her very well—several people came in. She gave us flowers & a pine apple– We returned home by 7– one of the horses was taken sick on the way home. The whole Legation dined with us except Haggard who is in England—viz. MacDonells—Hunts—Saurin & OConner also Nicholas & Maffei, Major Hall & Col Fitch. Mirecki & Inzenga came in the eveng & Ruiz Gomez—the Hunts sang beautifully & I sang a little also. | |
