10 July 1874 — Langham House, Portland Place
Friday. 10th July [1874]. Went out with Henry directly after breakfast & he left me at Mrs Burrs while he went on to pay a visit & then came back & took me to call on Lady Hammond next door to the Burrs. Mrs B. was busy packing & arranging for leaving London. The Squire had the gout. After lunch I took a brougham & drove out alone to pay some visits. I went to see Lady Felmer & found her. It was a very hot day. I went to try & find Elisabeth & failing & then to see Bss Weisweiller whom I saw & then by 5 I went to the F.O. where I met Henry & we had tea with Henry Eliot who has charming rooms there. The M. & S. & Mrs & Miss Ross were there to tea. We dined with Somers in a tempore house they have in Up. Brook St they were quite alone. We afterwards went to a ball at the Holfords where there were P. & Pss of Wales—the Crown Prince & Pss Teck &c. Did not stay long.
